While our friends in the States were making hand turkeys, over here in Albania we were making double-headed eagles (see the kids' hands above) ... in honor of Independence Day (November 28, 1912) and Liberation Day (November 29, 1944).
If you didn't catch the significance, this year marked 70 years since the Allied forces liberated Albania.
Someone more astute than I noticed that it was 23 years after Liberation Hoxha declared Albania's official religion to be atheism. Roughly 23 years later, communism collapsed, and here we are 23 years later, Albania is poised at another crossroads.
The leaders of the Albanian evangelical church wanted to take the occasion of Liberation Day to declare Albania's utter dependence upon God, so an event was planned in Tirana for a time of corporate prayer for the nation.
I had the pleasure of attending with a small group of women from our village church.
My poor attempt at a group selfie in our over-crowded furgon (mini bus) coming home 3+ hours later!
